Run for your life!
Really, dude. You know you should do it, but still you don’t. Why? Cuz it sucks!
True, cardio is a pain in the ass, but many of us don’t get enough of it. I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t get enough myself, and I’m sure I get more than most. Cardiovascular health is about more than just looking good (but it really helps), it’s about heart health. Ok, you already know this. So, where do you start?
Your capabilities
If you’re extremely overweight, then you need cardio bad. But, you may not be able to do the most effective cardiovascular exercises (yet). Start with what you can do. Don’t just sit there and feel sorry for yourself. It will only get worse if you don’t make a change. The time to make a change is NOW!
The schedule:
Make it a point to get 3 days of cardio in a week. That is the bare minimum. Your goal is to make it for 30-45 minutes. If you need to start off with shorter periods for health reasons, then adjust. But you have to increase your time each session you go out.
Some suggestions:
- Power walk
- Jog / Run
- Bike
- Ellipticals
- Rowing machines
- fitness classes

Hi,
I know. You are right. Being and staying active is more than looking good, but it is very good for your health. I would love to get back into shape and lead a healthier life. The only thing is I am a girl. Can I get started here too? I mean can girls do the same exercises that dudes do?
Thank you,
Inke
Hi, mom! Yes, girls can get started here as well. As long as you girls keep quiet (just kidding). It’s just that I will focus heavily on weight training geared towards dudes. But anyone can benefit from the general underlying principles of moderate health management that will be discussed on this site.
